I drew Oiran! It meant Courtesan. NOT GEISHA~~.^0^
Oiran with two Kamuro (Little probationary prostitutes) and two Shinzou ( Older probationary prostitutes.) The Kamuros are arranged a bit in this picture. This name Oiran was from that they were called "Oira no nee-san (My sister)" by probationary girls. Sakura (cherry blossoms) was a symbol of Yoshiwara, a town prostitues were gathered. So Oirans were connected with Sakura very often. There's a cool movie about Oiran that is just titled "Sakuran." （さくらん） [link] Sakuran is up for the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin. This means someday this movie would be screened or would be sold as a DVD in foreign countries?? I hope so... Sakuran is kinda fashionable movie so if you would like to see 'Reality' of Oirans, I recommend you Yoshiwara Enjou. （吉原炎上） (But I don't know if that movie came out in foreign countries. Sorry~.>< ) The movie is more serious and correct than Sakuran. I love the both though.*^^* Edit: btw, it's never Fanart of Sakuran. I didn't draw any character of Sakuran. I drew this pic refering Ukiyo-e, Japanese traditional art. If it's called Fanart, it's Fanart of Ukiyo-e. |
