Oiran with two Kamuro (Little probationary prostitutes) and two Shinzou ( Older probationary prostitutes.)
The Kamuros are arranged a bit in this picture.

This name Oiran was from that they were called "Oira no nee-san (My sister)" by probationary girls.
Sakura (cherry blossoms) was a symbol of Yoshiwara, a town prostitues were gathered. So Oirans were connected with Sakura very often.


There's a cool movie about Oiran that is just titled "Sakuran." （さくらん）

Sakuran is up for the Internationale Filmfestspiele Berlin.
This means someday this movie would be screened or would be sold as a DVD in foreign countries?? I hope so...

Sakuran is kinda fashionable movie so if you would like to see 'Reality' of Oirans, I recommend you Yoshiwara Enjou. （吉原炎上）
(But I don't know if that movie came out in foreign countries. Sorry~.>< )
The movie is more serious and correct than Sakuran. I love the both though.*^^*
